NO WEAPONS: ME OR THEE?

Isaiah 54:11-17

Introduction: Fred Hammond sings a song titled “No Weapon” in which he says, “No weapon formed against me shall prosper, it won’t work.” As beautiful as the song is, it depicts the wrong sentiments. Many people believe that because they are God’s children, nothing can happen to them; they cannot be hurt or harmed in anyway. We know this is not true. Well, what did the prophet mean when he uttered these words so long ago? I believe what he said has more to do with the church than any individual.

I.                    Consider the context of Isaiah 54:11-17

A.      The prophet speaks to God’s people Israel concerning what would become of them in the future (outward beauty)

1.      He is going to establish them upon a precious foundation (v. 11-12)

2.      This Correlates to the foundation mentioned in Revelation 21:18-21

3.      This speaks to the invaluable and precious foundation upon which the Lord’s Church is established (1 Cor. 3:11; 1 Pet. 2:6; Matt. 16:18; Eph. 2:20)

B.       The prophet speaks concerning their future spiritual standing before the Lord (v. 13-14)

1.      Knowledge of God is necessary to be a part of this Glorious city along with sins forgiveness (Jer. 31:34)

2.      This knowledge can only come from God, thus we are taught by God

a.       God does the revealing and Jesus the teaching (Matt. 11:25-29)

b.      No other way we can come to Christ (John 6:45)

c.       Since all truth is in Christ we must learn from Him (Eph. 4:21)

d.      This is the anointing that we have from God (1 John 2:20-21, 27)

e.       This is how the Lord builds his church (Matt. 16:17-18)

3.      They shall be in peace

a.       Their minds are in tuned with God (Isa. 26:3)

b.      Such is a gift from the hand of the Lord (John 14:27)

c.       Because they are in fellowship with the Lord (John 16:33)

d.      Because they have been justified with God (Rom. 5:1)

4.      They shall be established in righteousness (v. 14)

a.       Such is the basis of God’s throne (Psa. 89:14)

b.      God’s righteousness is forever and cannot be destroyed (Isa. 51:6,8)

c.       Is it any wonder Paul says what he says about the kingdom of God (Rom. 14:17)

II.                 No weapon can prevail against thee (the Kingdom of God, the Church)

A.      Individuals come and go and are overwhelmed and overcome, not so with the Church

1.      Not only for all the reasons state previously but because the Lord says such will never happen (Matt. 16:18)

2.      The Lord’s Church will abide forever (Psa. 125:1-2)

3.      No one can condemn it, speak against it or harm it (Rom. 8:33-38)

B. What a great incentive we have to be a part of it (Heb. 12:28)
