A PLACE PREPARED

John 14:1-6

I.                    Consider the account in Genesis 1-2

A.     Six days God prepared a place so that man would have a home in this world and in that place God gave everything man needed to live and be happy

1.      Water and food

2.      Fowls and Fish

3.      Trees (shade) mountains (homes)

B.     Often man finds himself standing in awe of God’s creation

1.      The vastness of the oceans

2.      A starlit sky

3.      The beauty of a mountainside with the backdrop of a setting sun

C.     Even expectant parents know to prepare a place for the child who will soon need a place to call home

1.      Adorn a room

2.      Purchase a crib and bassinet

3.      Have food and formula and clothes

D.    In biblical times a bridegroom would go away to prepare a place and then come again to take his bride home

II.                 Jesus left some 2000 years ago to prepare a place for his people

A.     If we are in awe with what it took God 6 days to prepare and this may be speculation on my part, but what will be our reaction to the place that Jesus hade been gone 2000 years preparing?

B.     Let us consider what that place will be like – keep in mind if Jesus is preparing us a place then this world cannot be our home

1.      Paul said he’d rather be over there than over here (2 Cor. 5:6-8; Phi. 1:23)

2.      You see, over there

a.       There will be no more shed tears, no more dying, no more pain and sorrow – no more funerals we will have to attend; Trimble will be out of Business – Kleenex will no longer be needed (Rev. 21:4)

b.      All things will be made new (v. 5)

c.       No sunburn or skin cancer (v. 22-24)

d.      No thievery (v. 25)

e.       Nothing toxic, no pollutants and no corruption (v. 26)

f.        Pure water on either side the tree of life bearing 12 manner of fruit (Rev. 22:1-2)

g.       The leaves are for healing (Robert – no eye or leg trouble, no canes in heaven, Emma – no asthma or gout, Katherine – no cancer, Ms Betty – no trouble with your knees

h.      Song writer says “When we’ve been there . . .” I am not sure I know what that means but if I had to guess . . .

Conclusion: This prepared place is for a prepared people (Amos 4:12; Matt. 24:44; 1 The. 5:9). Not what we will be in heaven (Rev. 21:2). If we are prepared people we will desire that prepares place (Heb. 11:16) – Invite with Jesus saying how to get there (John 14:6) and what Jesus says we must do.
