TOO SMART, TOO STRONG, TOO BOLD, TOO GOOD

Joshua 1:8-9

Introduction: Joshua was a great man who followed a great leader. Joshua had been chosen to replace that great leader Moses. Though in a position of power and authority Joshua did not allow such to go to his head. (He was told to be strong, bold, fearless, and confident – Why?)

Joshua was someone that God could work with because Joshua was not too much of any of those traits. We must be the same way if we want God to use us.

I.                    Too Smart

A.     Not many wise – can’t tell you anything

B.     Must become as fools

II.                 Too Strong

A.     Must understand our limitations and trust God to provide what is lacking

B.     Always trying to stand on your own

III.               Too Bold

A.     Jeremiah 36:22-24 – fearless will cause one to be too daring

B.     We need to have some healthy fear (Matt. 10:28)

IV.              Too Good

A.     An attitude that you are better than the rest, perfect and need no correction, often always critical of others and how they behave, a goodie two shoes (Ecc. 7:16; Luke 18:9-14)

B.     No one is too good (Rom. 3:23)

Conclusion: This is a lesson on the need to be humble (Isa. 57:15; James 4:10)
