“How to be a Wise Man: According to a Wise Woman ”
Pastor Susie Gamez
Proverbs 31:1-9 (NIV)
The sayings of King Lemuel—an inspired utterance his mother taught him. 2 Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb! Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers! 3 Do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings. 4 It is not for kings, Lemuel—it is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, 5 lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights. 6 Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish! 7 Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more. 8 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. 9 Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.
Words of Wisdom from Parents to Children:
- You are not your job. You are not the amount of money you have in the bank. You are not your possessions.
- Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s a waste of energy. You are unique and have your own gifts to offer the world.
- Expect to fail. Failure is not fatal. Learn the lessons, then get back up and try again.
- Look after your health — physical, mental, and spiritual.
- You don’t need to have it all figured out. Tomorrow is another day.
- Be of service to others. Be interested in others. People will remember what you did for them.
- Be willing to show that you are vulnerable. It is in fact the greatest act of courage.
- Don’t worry about what other people think. They think about you a lot less than you imagine.
- Listen to your inner dialogue. Would you speak to someone you love in the same way?
- Act with integrity at all times.
Words of Wisdom from a Mother to her Son:
- Listen like a king (submit before you lead)
- Think like a king (think before you do; lest you forget)
- Act like a king (act justly, love mercy, walk humbly)
