How to be a Wise Man: According to a Wise Woman

Pastor Susie Gamez

Proverbs 31:1-9 (NIV)

The sayings of King Lemuel—an inspired utterance his mother taught him. Listen, my son! Listen, son of my womb! Listen, my son, the answer to my prayers! Do not spend your strength on women, your vigor on those who ruin kings. It is not for kings, Lemuel—it is not for kings to drink wine, not for rulers to crave beer, lest they drink and forget what has been decreed, and deprive all the oppressed of their rights. Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in anguish! Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more. Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Words of Wisdom from Parents to Children:

  1. You are not your job. You are not the amount of money you have in the bank. You are not your possessions.
  2. Don’t compare yourself to others. It’s a waste of energy. You are unique and have your own gifts to offer the world.
  3. Expect to fail. Failure is not fatal. Learn the lessons, then get back up and try again.
  4. Look after your health — physical, mental, and spiritual.
  5. You don’t need to have it all figured out. Tomorrow is another day.
  6. Be of service to others. Be interested in others. People will remember what you did for them.
  7. Be willing to show that you are vulnerable. It is in fact the greatest act of courage.
  8. Don’t worry about what other people think. They think about you a lot less than you imagine.
  9. Listen to your inner dialogue. Would you speak to someone you love in the same way?
  10. Act with integrity at all times.

Words of Wisdom from a Mother to her Son:

  1. Listen like a king (submit before you lead)
  2. Think like a king (think before you do; lest you forget)
  3. Act like a king (act justly, love mercy, walk humbly)
