“Resilient Faith: Keep Your Eyes on Jesus”
Pastor Tyronne Gross
Biblical Background:
1) Resilient Faith Starts with a Step
Matthew 14:27-29
27 But Jesus immediately said to them: “Take courage! It is I. Don’t be afraid.” 28 “Lord, if it’s you,” Peter replied, “tell me to come to you on the water. 29 “Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus.
2 Corinthians 3:4-5
“We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we’re qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.”
2) Resilient Faith Stumbles but Cries Out for Help
Matthew 14:30-31
30 But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” 31 Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?”
2 Corinthians 3:17-18
17 Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.18 And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate[a] the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.
3)Resilient Faith Grows in the Presence of Jesus
Matthew 14:32-33
32 And when they climbed into the boat, the wind died down. 33 Then those who were in the boat worshiped him, saying, “Truly you are the Son of God.”
2 Corinthians 3:6
6 He has made us competent as ministers of a new covenant—not of the letterbut of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.
