Relationship Revolution: Reimagining Connection & Community

Main Text: Matthew 22:34-40 (NIV)
Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. 35 One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: 36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?”
37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
Biblical Background: The Greatest Commandment is Rooted in Relationship.
Reimaging Connection and Community begins with Getting Our Relationships Right starting with our:
1.) Relationship with God – Loving God.
Matthew 22:37-38
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.
Psalm 63:1-2
A psalm of David. When he was in the Desert of Judah.
1 You, God, are my God,
earnestly I seek you;
I thirst for you,
my whole being longs for you,
in a dry and parched land
where there is no water.2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
and beheld your power and your glory.
2.) Relationship with Me– Loving Me.
Matthew 22:39
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
2 Timothy 3:1-5
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.
3.) Relationship with Others – Loving Others.
Matthew 22:39
And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
This week I encourage you to consider:
1.) Am I loving God well?
2.) Am I loving myself well?
3.) Am I loving others well?
And then reflect on this – How can I:
1.) Love God better.
2.) Love myself better.
3.) Love others better.
