Series -Hope: When You Want to Quit on God
Hope After Failure
Pastor Gilbert Acevedo
Main verse: Romans 3:23
“For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
Romans 3:23 NLT
Context: Romans 3:10-18 , 3:21-25
Romans 3:10–18, 23 NLT
“As the Scriptures say, “No one is righteous— not even one. No one is truly wise; no one is seeking God. All have turned away; all have become useless. No one does good, not a single one.” “Their talk is foul, like the stench from an open grave. Their tongues are filled with lies.” “Snake venom drips from their lips.” “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.” “They rush to commit murder. Destruction and misery always follow them. They don’t know where to find peace.” “They have no fear of God at all.” For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard.”
Romans 3:21–25 NLT
“But now God has shown us a way to be made right with him without keeping the requirements of the law, as was promised in the writings of Moses and the prophets long ago. We are made right with God by placing our faith in Jesus Christ. And this is true for everyone who believes, no matter who we are. For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, in his grace, freely makes us right in his sight. He did this through Christ Jesus when he freed us from the penalty for our sins. For God presented Jesus as the sacrifice for sin. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed his life, shedding his blood. This sacrifice shows that God was being fair when he held back and did not punish those who sinned in times past,”
Biblical Background: Hope vs Failure
Samson, known for his incredible strength, failed God in several ways:
1. **Disregard for his Nazirite Vow (Judges 14:8-9 & Judges 14:10-11)
2. **Lack of Self-Control (Judges 16:15-17)
3. **Trusting in His Own Strength
What about the people that were with Jesus the most?
So if failure in Christ isn’t final…what must we do to walk this out? How can you and I fail, but not stay in failure.
Failure alone, keeps you stuck. But, with Christ, failure is an opportunity to: Recognize, Renew, and Rise
1. Recognize
2. Renew(Romans 3:20 NLT)
3. Rise
With hope as your anchor, you can turn setbacks into stepping stones to Christ like success.
Bottom Line: Recognize your flaws, renew your faith in God’s grace, and rise with resilience, knowing that through Him, that there is hope after failure.
Final thought:
Don’t get it twisted family, because there is Hope after failure, doesn’t mean we should live recklessly cause God paid for it.
You and I don’t have to seek failure out, it’ll find us – just enough.
So you and I don’t need to only learn from failure, living to fail is unwise -it’s just because of Christ, that you and I don’t need to stop living when we fail.
Failure in Christ isn’t final, and sometimes it is in the midst of failure, or living through past failures, is where God is prepping the soil for health, hope, and healing. Let’s always commit to doing the next best thing. Even in the face of, in the midst of, or in the result of – our failure.
