Series- Beyond Belief: Understanding God’s Great Generosity
Creating A Movement
Pastor Bob Balian

Main Text: Matthew 9:35-38 (NIV)

Individuals Whose Generosity and Unselfishness Ignite Movements

35 “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness. 36 When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. 37 Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”  (Matthew 9:35-38)

How do we Create a Movement by Modeling Christ?

1.) Christ Saves and Heals Generously   (Matthew 9:35 NIV)

35 “Jesus went through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the good news of the kingdom and healing every disease and sickness.”

2.) Christ Sees with Compassion  (Matthew 9:36 NIV)

36 “When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.” (v.36)

Mark 7:24-30 (NKJV)

24 From there He arose and went to the region of Tyre [h]and Sidon. And He entered a house and wanted no one to know it, but He could not be hidden. 25 For a woman whose young daughter had an unclean spirit heard about Him, and she came and fell at His feet. 26 The woman was a [i]Greek, a [j]Syro-Phoenician by birth, and she kept [k]asking Him to cast the demon out of her daughter. 27 But Jesus said to her, “Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.”

28 And she answered and said to Him, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs under the table eat from the children’s crumbs.”

29 Then He said to her, “For this saying go your way; the demon has gone out of your daughter.”

30 And when she had come to her house, she found the demon gone out, and her daughter lying on the bed.

3.) Christ Solicits and Employs Help  (Matthew 9:37-38)

37 “Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. 38 Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.”
