Series: Dealing With Everything: Answers to Life’s Challenges
Everything Promised: Dealing with Disappointment
Pastor Tyronne Gross
Main Text: 2 Corinthians 1:20-22
For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. 21 Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, 22 set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
How God Delivers Us from Disappointment and Discouragement
1.) Promises Given: God Makes Promises
- Psalm 34:18 – The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
- Romans 8:28 – And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
- Jeremiah 31:13 – I will turn their mourning into gladness; I will give them comfort and joy instead of sorrow.
- Psalm 34:17 – The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears them; he delivers them from all their troubles.
- Psalm 147:3 – He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
- Jeremiah 29:11 – For I know the plans I have for you, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
- Isaiah 41:10 – So do not fear, for I am with you;do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
2.) Promises Kept: God Keeps His Promises
- Psalms 34:10 – The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.
- 2 Corinthians 12:9 – But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore, I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me.”
3.) Promises Revealed: God Reveals His Promises
Hebrews 10:35-36 – So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded. You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised.
Final Thought:
2 Corinthians 1:20-22 – For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes” in Christ. And so through him the “Amen” is spoken by us to the glory of God. Now it is God who makes both us and you stand firm in Christ. He anointed us, set his seal of ownership on us, and put his Spirit in our hearts as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come.
