Dr. Efrem Smith
Main Text: Mark 10:17-27 (NIV)
Other Texts: Mark 10:13-16, Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalms 20:7, 37:3, 40:4, 56:3-4, 119:41-42, 125:1, and 143:8
Biblical Foundation:
The Gospel of Mark Chapter 10-
- Will a Wealthy Man Put the Messiah Over Materialism?
- This is a Trust Moment.
- This story is not about the scandalizing of wealth. It’s about surrender and trust.
- The Bible has a strong emphasis on trusting God. Consider these Psalms alone- 20:7, 37:3, 40:4, 56:3-4, 119:41-42, 125:1, and 143:8
- The Christian Life Should Contain Practices that Deepen Trust in God.
Big Question of The Sermon:
Are You Ready to Trust God with Everything?
1. The Start of Trust
- Mark 10:17-20, Mark 10:13-16
- Set Free by Trust. Trusting God as Freedom From Enslavement to the World. Developing Child-like Faith (A Child Has Nothing to Offer). The Practice of Dependence.
2. The Heart of Trust
- Mark 10:21- “Jesus looked at him and loved him.”
- The connection between trusting god and a relationship with God. God loves us. Trust is both broken and built around our experience of love and relationships.
3. The Challenge of Trust
- Mark 10:21-25
- Moving our allegiances from the stuff to the Savior.
- What are we devoted to?
Final Thought: The Life of Trust
- Mark 10:26-27 and Proverbs 3:5-6
- “I trust in God my Savior, the One, Who will Never Fail…”
- The Only One I Can Trust.
