God Is The Great I AM

Pastor Efrem Smith

Biblical Background:
Exodus 3– A meeting and conversation between God and Moses where God reveals Himself, speaks, sees the suffering of His people, calls Moses, and reveals His name.

God’s Existence:

  • Exodus 3:1–9
  • God is eternal and existed before earthly powers like Pharaoh.
  • He sees, hears, and identifies with the oppressed, showing that His presence is not limited by status, power, or place.

God’s Eternity:

  • Exodus 3:10–15
  • God has no beginning or end—He is “I AM.”
  • Unlike earthly rulers, God’s reign has no limits, no expiration, and no succession. He is the One who was, who is, and who will be.

God’s Empowerment:

  • Exodus 3:16–20
  • God not only calls Moses but also equips and sends him.
  • He holds authority over kings and systems and empowers His people to step into their calling.

God’s Engagement:

  • Exodus 4:1–5
  • God is personally involved with His people. He responds to doubts, provides signs, and meets us in our uncertainty.
  • The Great I AM is present, attentive, and actively working in our lives.

Final Thought:

  • The “I AM” is not distant—He is engaged and present with us.
  • God knows our names and our needs, and His names reveal both who He is and who we are in Him.
  • When we encounter God, we are also given a new identity—beloved, redeemed, reconciled, and sent.
