Got Health?

Pastor Gilbert Acevedo

Main Text: Proverbs 3:1-8 (NIV)

My son, do not forget my teaching,
    but keep my commands in your heart,
for they will prolong your life many years
    and bring you peace and prosperity.

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
    bind them around your neck,
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will win favor and a good name
    in the sight of God and man.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.

Do not be wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
    and nourishment to your bones.

Health is Wealth

Biblical Background: Proverbs- A wisdom book. Putting God’s instructions into action. A life of learning of God and living for God.

  • Biblical Health: Spiritually Healthy. The Holy Spirit being a source of health. Health from the inside out. What’s on the inside gives insight to our ability to live healthy lives. What’s in the heart, what’s in the mind is where the work towards health begins. Salvation means health and wholeness. God is more concerned about what is coming out of your heart than what is going into your body. This is because what is in your heart will impact what goes in your body.

1 Timothy 4:8

For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

How Faith Leads to Health

1.) Health Through Obedience to God
(Health starts at the heart)

Proverbs 3:1-2

My son, do not forget my teaching,
    but keep my commands in your heart,
for they will prolong your life many years
    and bring you peace and prosperity.

2.) Health Through Love and Faithfulness
(Health in Action)

Proverbs 3:3-4

Let love and faithfulness never leave you;
    bind them around your neck,
    write them on the tablet of your heart.
Then you will win favor and a good name
    in the sight of God and man.

Psalm 46:10

He says, “Be still, and know that I am God;
    I will be exalted among the nations,
    I will be exalted in the earth.”

3.) Health Through Understanding and Wisdom
(Health understood & applied)

Proverbs 3:5-8

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
    and he will make your paths straight.

Do not be wise in your own eyes;
    fear the Lord and shun evil.
This will bring health to your body
    and nourishment to your bones.

 Health Check Up: Quick 3

  1. Check your heart – who/what has your heart? (Ask God to replace who or what has your heart with him.)
  2. Check your schedule – who/what has your time? (Ask God to replace who or what has your time with him.)
  3. Check your diet – what are you consuming? (Ask God to replace what you are consuming that is unhealthy [in your heart, soul, mind, and stomach] with what would please Him.)

 Proverbs 15:29-31

The Lord is far from the wicked,
    but he hears the prayer of the righteous.

30 Light in a messenger’s eyes brings joy to the heart,
    and good news gives health to the bones.

31 Whoever heeds life-giving correction
    will be at home among the wise.
